The story behind the Tea Garden
Christine had thought for quite some time about having a tea room. Being an avid tea drinker, a "foodie", and one with a lot of creative ideas, it seemed like a great combination. Christina Macritchie, one of the first volunteers to come out to the Farm donated her china. She and her sister collected various tea cups and teapots from second hand shops in Scotland. The tea settings were even used in Christina's wedding. (see pictures below). When Christine decided to bring them back to Zambia it was no small challenge to get all the china here in one piece. So bubble wrap and socks is what was used! Christine's mum helped her wrap them up. She is pictured on the right, putting socks into the teacups. Then Christine wrapped them in bubble wrap and put them in her suitcase. Of all the pieces brought over, only one saucer was broken. Christine's mum taught her how to bake and some of the recipes used for the tea garden are ones that she learned from her mum! |
